Squamish Nation outlines new plan to build 6,000 units in 11 towers next to the Burrard Bridge

The Squamish Nation has doubled their original plan to build 3,000 units on their land to 6,000 which will include 11 towers build next to the Burrard Bridge in Kitsilano and False Creek.

These units will be mostly rental and only 10% will come with parking spaces. The Band councillor Khelsilem of the Squamish Nation was quoted saying "we as council have a responsibility to make sure the highest value is created on an asset they [band members] own."

Since the land is owned by the band they can essentially do whatever they want without consultation from residents. They are rumoured to be working with Ian Gillespie and his company, Westbank as partner that would see the developer taking 50% of the proceeds from the project.

This project will be decided in December when the Nation's members will vote in a referendum.
